Trawler Fishing

The agitation against Zuari led to the mobilization for the fisherfolk communities. The Goenchea Ramponkarancho Ekvott catalysed around the struggles of the fisherfolk for their right to fish closer to the shore traditionally, as their livelihoods were being destroyed by the commercial trawlers. The Marine Regulation Act 1980 was passed as a result of the struggle. The GRE also aided the formation of the National Fishworkers Forum in 1978.

 More recently, Bharat Mukti Morcha Goa has been fighting to protect the livelihoods of local fishing communities from trawler operators.
