Zuari Agro-Chemicals
The agitation against the polluting Zuari Agro Chemicals in Goa started in 1974, and was one of the first environmental agitations in India. Zuari's use of arsenic in its processing was polluting air and water, killing fish in the sea and poisoning drinking water sources. As a result of the agitation, the company was briefly shut down and eventually had to change to a less harmful technique.
